The marvelous state of Sinaloa is considered a young area. New generations in Mexico and the world considered it a live area since the Spaniard conquest. The conquest opened a new era in this land, this land where different tribes dwelled thousand of years ago.
Some people assure that Sinaloa was a temporary spot and temporary site of the civilizations looking for the land pointed out by the Gods, like the Toltec’s and the Aztecs among others. There are also vestiges throughout the state of many and diverse tribes who lived permanently in Sinaloa.
Maybe the example causing the most impact regarding prehispanic vestiges in Sinaloa is the one known as Las Labradas; this misterious place is located on the coast of the municipality of San Ignacio, very close to the fishing community of Barras de Piaxtla.
There are many theories about its origins, some very well documented others not, but the fact is that Las Labradas have called attention since they “were officially discovered”.
One of the most accepted theories is that they were built by the Toltecs who were artists, wise men and cultured men, who showed political skills by founding an empire with vestiges en Central America, they also were very skilled sculptors.
The biggest mystery of Las Labradas is that they were built next to the sea; it is believed that the Toltecs built temples for the ceremonies prior their hunting trips led by the high priest, they were very religious.
Another theories show that Las Labradas is just a visible part of another big human group of unknown origin and that at the bottom of the sea is where their city is.
Anthropologists keep looking for more data on the origin of Las Labradas. We are sure that some day the mystery will be solved. In the meantime we invite you to see these mysterious Labradas rocks. Just one recommendation they are mankind’s heritage, so please be careful and respect.
