El Guamuchilito Restaurant

Restaurante El GuamuchilitoA story that has born fruit over the years is the story of El Guamuchilito restaurant.  It is an example of dedication to hard work and the constant striving to satisfy the palates and the demands of the clients.  It was founded in 1979 as a vending wagon selling classic ceviche, oysters and scallops in the shade of a giant guamuchil tree.  As time went by, people began to identify the seafood wagon with the large tree.  There wasn’t much competition back then, not like today where there are at least 40 seafood restaurants in El Centro.  The growing crowd of clients began to clamor for a bigger place with better facilities and a wider selection of food.  Thus was born the restaurant, located in the same place on Avenida Insurgentes and Teodoro Mariscal, just three blocks from the baseball stadium.

About 15 years later the first branch of the restaurant opened next door to the Lion’s Club, about three blocks from the malecon on Insurgentes and Reforma.  They offer the same specialties and flavor as the first Guamuchilito, among which stand out shrimp pate, grilled whole fish, and a shrimp party dish that comes with three sauces.  There is also good BBQ and a large tray special for four people called “guamuchilito” that features ceviche, crab, scallops, oyster, shrimp pate, clams, calamari and shrimp for peeling.

Other specialties are the aguachile, mixed filet bathed in a three cheese sauce, the “coco loco”, which is shrimp with coconut and a variety of meats and hamburgers for the little ones.

Restaurante El GuamuchilitoThe Guamuchilito still has a lot of story left to tell.  There are plans to expand the operation to Los Cabos and they are inventing tasty new dishes that will debut soon.  They will definitely be zesty and scrumptious in the same style as the food in the present places, the style that was born under the shade of a big tree.

El Guamuchilito also offers plates for special events and home delivery.  Please call 986-6691 and 92.
