Mazatlan will be the official site of the sport fishing world championship, said Pedro Sors Garcia, president of the Mexican National Sport Fishing Federation last May 27th.  He said this at a press conference held at the Mexican Sport Confederation.  Present were Antonio Ibarra Salgado (Secretary of Sinaloa Tourism), Martin Botello Ruvalcaba (representative of the Secretary of Fishing Commission), Jaime Ruiz Huerta (president of the Sinaloa Fishing Association) and Milko Rivera Hope (Mexican Tourist Promotion Board).

Sors Garcia explained that Mexico was named the site of this big sporting event at the last conference of the Annual Congress of International Sport Fishing (Confederation Internationale de Peche Sportive or CIPS, in French) that was held in Prague, Czech Republic.

“We competed with France, the USA and Brazil, who also wanted to host this event, however our proposal was voted in unanimously.  Our country is very well known internationally as a great fishing center and for many years Mazatlan has boasted the title of the “flying fish capital of the world” which we hope to reinforce during this world championship”, said Sors Garcia.

The headquarters of the event will be Marina El Cid resorts Mazatlan.  The fishing zone will be a circuit of 50 nautical miles.
