Sailing
with the wind at your back

Vailing is the art of navigating a boat that is propelled by a sail blown along by the wind.  The sailor puts the wind to the sails in order to change the speed and direction of the boat.

Down through history, sailing has been instrumental in the development of civilization.  The earliest representation of a sail boat appears on an Egyptian flower vase dating back approximately 3, 500 years.  The technological advances in sailing since the 15th century allowed the European explorers to make longer and longer voyages to regions with extreme climatic conditions and the boats became more sophisticated.  Boats went more and more up north and could stay out at open sea for a longer time and thus began the expeditions to the Pacific North east and the Western Arctic.

Resourcefulness, ability and experience with sea and wind factors are required to sail.  Today, most of us enjoy sailing as a recreational activity that can be divided into competitions, goofing off or just fun day sailing.  This is what Kim and Eduardo do.  They are champions of various regattas and members of the Mazatlan Sailing Club (the second largest in Mexico).  They are seasoned travelers and above all else, nature lovers.  They offer us the opportunity to enjoy this marvelous experience in Mazatlan.

Feeling the sea breeze, smiling into the wind and listening to the swoosh of the boat as it glides over the sea are a few of the neat things that our sense can experience by sailing.  Again, you can do it for sport, adventure of just for pleasure.

Let’s hope all of us can enjoy sailing.  We certainly don’t have to travel very far since it is all right here in our beautiful port of Mazatlan.
