Happy news come to Mazatlán almost everyday, the last one is from Delta Airlines, one of the three most important airlines from USA, restarted activities in Mazatlan after nine years of absence.
Right at 12:30pm on March 8th, the first flight landed in Mazatlan’s International Airport, it was welcomed with the traditional bath in this field.
In the luxurios reception area of the airport, federal and municipal authorities, business chambers, press and special guests show up for the event.
Their great enthusiasm and the amiable gathering with the airlines staff call our attention.
The opening speech by Roberto Quinn Regional Manager ACS and CTO Mexico from Delta Airlines was to thank the support of the federal, state and municipal governments, OMA (Airport services), hotel owners and tourism workers for their efforts with Delta’s representative to bring this initial flight. He also stated that Delta Airlines believes in Mazatlan, a dear destination in Salt Lake City and its influence zone. Delta Airlines has 300 daily flights in that city as well as 101 connections with important cities of Northwest USA, this makes Salt Lake City the most important flight distributor of that area in USA, with this Mazatlan’s market will improve significantly.
Regarding the kind of plane coming to Mazatlan, it is an Embraer ERJ 170 jet for 70 seats and 9 first class seats. It is a high quality technology aircraft, to flight everyday, and if demand increases it will be substituted by other aircrafts of more capacity, as everybody wishes.
Mazatlan ’s Mayor Alejandro Higuera Osuna thanked the executives of the company for their effort to bring back this everyday flight from Salt Lake City to Mazatlan. He mentioned his satisfaction for having Delta flying back to our city again because there is an old and close relationship, and he wishes it will last forever. He also commented of the joint effort of the government and Delta Airlines to make this project a reality.
With this Mazatlan strengthens its place as the most important tourist destination of Northwest Mexico, making tourism the second important industry in Sinaloa. Mazatlan is the window, the image and the icon of Sinaloa to the world.
To conclude he invited all the present to joint efforts to bring more than one flight to Mazatlan everyday.
Jesus Vizcarra Calderon Sinaloa’s State Government Secretary of Economical Development representing Sinaloa`s Governor addressed the present with remembering the meeting he had with Sinaloa’s State Tourism Bureau Director, executives from Delta Airlines, tourist businessmen from Mazatlan and the Mayor in the Tourism Tianguis in the city of Acapulco last year when they talked about this to make it a reality. This is an example of team work, one of the basic instructions of the Governor. The result of this joint effort has become in a great benefit for Mazatlan and Sinaloa.
He also mentioned the 760 million dollars from investments in Sinaloa during 2005, 100 million of them came through tourism, and for 2006, 200 million dollars are expected.
For that reason he agreed with the Mayor that Tourism is the second important activity in the State, 80% of that comes from Mazatlan.
We should bet on tourism, take care of our own natural and human resources, and support the investors believing in Sinaloa and Mazatlan in tourism.
He finished his participation thanking the Delta Airline executives and administration board and by encouraging them to keep believing in Sinaloa and Mazatlan.
Porfirio Gonzalez Alvarez director of the Business Division of OMA expressed his satisfaction with the result of this joint effort, and announced millionaire investment for Mazatlan’s International Airport to benefit the users and the airlines; he highlighted the efforts to make migratory services more agile.
