The greats of Australian tourism gathered to celebrate the achievements of one of the industry's visionaries over the last 30 years, Sir Frank Moore, at a testimonial dinner last week.

The dinner was co-hosted by the STCRC and Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC).

Sir Frank started in Australian tourism in 1978, was knighted in 1983 and appointed as an Officer of
the Order of Australia in 1991 for his contribution to the community and the tourism industry.

The STCRC presented its highest honor to Sir Frank at the dinner, by awarding him as an Honorary Fellow.

"Sir Frank's contribution to the advancement of Australia's tourism is extraordinary, particularly in the areas of leadership and tourism education and research," said Mr Ian Kean, CEO.

"Sir Frank's determination, vision and ability to make things happen, will be sorely missed in the industry."

"I am positive that receiving this honour will forward my career, particularly when working with industry. It is a great connection to have with both academia and industry."

"I was delighted to present Dr Wegner with this award," added Sir Frank. "Her research and its potential use to industry was outstanding. I wish her all the best in her future career."

The award was this year renamed for Sir Frank Moore, in honour of his contribution to the tourism industry.

Dr Wegner's thesis explores interactions between protected area managers, including conservation staff, and commercial tourism operators.
