The Corona Mazatlán Professional Golf Tournament returns with the best golfers from 15 countries, the majority from the United States and Canada. This great event is scheduled to be carried out on the beautiful El Cid Golf and Country Club course in Mazatlan from May 8th to 14th, 2006.
This tournament will be the only stage of the Canadian Professional Golf Tour that will take place in Mexico. The qualifying rounds will be held on Thursday, May 11 and Friday, May 12. 159 professional golfers will participate, of which about 20 will be Mexicans who are considered among the best in the country. The final rounds will be held on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14. Only those 60 with the best scores will advance to the next round of the tour, said Francisco Lavat, the Director General of Championship Management Company of Mexico, which is organizing the two stages of the tour that will take place in Mexico. The technical aspect of the tournament (tee times, rules, flags, scores, official results) will be handled and sanctioned by the Canadian Professional Golf Tour, he added.
In the last 5 years Mazatlan has acquired an excellent reputation for being a great host destination for international events. “It is a beautiful city with wonderful people and to tell the truth, it is no surprise that Mazatlan has been selected to be the site of one of the stages of the Canadian Professional Golf Tour. I don’t doubt at all that we are going to have another great success,” said Lavat. The purse for the winners will be 125,000 US dollars.
