Winners of the 2006 Photography Contest
Contest.2006.1.JPGDionysius Restaurant, May 12, 2006.- This morning a press conference was held to inform the media about the qualifiers and winners of the 2006 Mazatlan Interactivo Photography contest.

The general coordinator of the event, Hector Ivan Lizarraga, said: “It gives me great satisfaction to announce the winners and honorable mentions for this, the second annual Mazatlan Interactivo Photgraphy contest. We decided the winners last May 6th and I would like to congratulate all 38 participants in the contest who submitted 186 pieces for their creativity shown.

” Referring to the member of the committee, Señor Lizarraga added “We would like tocontest.2006.JPG honor those who have been part of the judging committee like Salvador Herrerra and Miguel Angel Roman. We would like to give them our deepest recognition and appreciation.

I would especially like to mention those who were selected for this noble honor, starting with the organizing committee which now is going to feature the winner from the previous year. This year we have 2005’s winner, Alwin van der Heiden, as part of the jury and this should amplify the spectrum of the judges.

I would especially like to mention those who were selected for this noble honor, starting with the organizing committee which now is going to feature the winner from the previous year. This year we have 2005’s winner, Alwin van der Heiden, as part of the jury and this should amplify the spectrum of the judges.

The jury should be comprised of recognized photographers, so we also have Doctor Claudia Peniche and Jose Luis Camacho, along with distinguished graphic designer Marcos Solorio, the art director of Proyecta and Fabio Montoya, a young plastic artist. All these people worked extraordinarily hard last May 6th to select the winners.

I should also mention the great enthusiasm shown for this event, which gave more credibility to the event.

He also thanked various associations for their support in the event. “I would like to thank the following representatives for their support: Jorge Haro, Canirac Presidente Señor Gilberto Jimenez, president of the section of travel agencies of the Mazatla´s Chambre of Commerce, Hildeliza Avalos, president of the Three Islands Hotel Association and Raul Llera Martinez, the General Coordinator of Tourism in Sinaloa, who endorsed this contest. Many thanks for your participation and support.

” Referring to the participants of the contest, Ivan Lizarraga finished up saying “We would like it to be known that although there are a few winners in the contest, everybody has shown the technique of their art and their particular vision of their surroundings. The contest is a stage for those of us who love this art form and although the results sometimes aren’t that favorable for some, events like this help us get over ourselves. It has a lot to do with the truth and legality that these events carry out and in this sense we all participate with an insurmountable premise ordained by our direction that we all observe and that is the development of this premise. Please receive our deepest appreciation for your participation.” As far as the results of the competition,

Ivan Lizarraga said that the contest had been divided into two parts and presented graphics showing the comparative statistics between the first contest held in 2005 and this year’s. Below are those graphics:

Then he spoke of the second part of the contest, which dealt with the photography. “What all of Mazatlan is waiting for is this:

38 participants submitted 186 photos, with 6 being the most one could submit. The jury selected the best of these. They were graded from one to five according to the following parameters: technique, composition and visual impact. Points were also given for concept. The sum of these grades gave the total points for each contestant. The second stage was the selection of the three winners and the honorable mention selections, who will participate in the exposition on May 27th in the Angela Peralta. It is worth mentioning that not all the works can be shown as a minimum number of points earned are required in order to advance to the exposition. The grading system was the same as last year except for last year each participant could only enter one photo.

The winners were those with the most points. It is fair to clarify that even though they already had some of their work selected as among the best, the jury determined that there would have to be a refinement of the selections since there are basic point requirements to enter this phase.” The photographs selected to be shown in the exposition are the following:

All prizes and recognitions will be delivered at this event, as well as a special thank you to the sponsors and collaborators. He added that “unlike last year, the entire day will be dedicated to photography with a full program of events. In other words, something the city has never seen before.” Visit This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to reserve your seat for this event
