What is a monotype? Monotype (or monoprint) - often called the "painterly print" - is a one-of-a-kind print made by painting on an acrylic plate. The plate is then run thru an etching press with a damp sheet of paper, transferring the image to paper. Monotype has a spontaneity and freedom that other print processes, such as lithography or etching, do not. You can work in any style - from detailed, traditional styles to looser abstractions, incorporating photography, collage, text, to fine line-work.
General Information:
The studio is located at Baltasar Izaguirre Rojo #23 in the heart of Centro Historico. Prints will be produced with oil based inks using a Griffin III, etching press, 37" x 52" press bed. All materials will be provided except paper. Paper can be purchased in the workshop at cost or if you prefer, you can bring your own printmaking paper such as Rives BFK. Optional items to bring: apron, brushes, sketchbook, ideas, source material.
